Every year Texas hosts the Volunteers of America Classic, an LPGA Tour event for professional women golfers. The first event was held in April 2013 at the Las Colinas Country Club in Irving, northwest of downtown Dallas. The sponsor of the title, Volunteers of America, is a nonprofit, faith-based organization. It primarily helps the poor across the country with housing and other needs.

For the tenth tournament, the Ascendant LPGA returned to the Old American Golf Club in The Colony, Texas. One of the event’s most vital fields will participate in its centennial celebration. Let’s learn more about the tour event’s specifics and prize distribution.

The LPGA Volunteers of America Classic event details
Ascendant National Title took over as co-sponsor of the event with volunteers of America in a new multi-year arrangement. According to event organizers, the LPGA’s fall Texas stop will now go by a new name. The Volunteers of America Classic 2022 Purse will be the same as it was last year.
However, the new name will be Ascendant LPGA, supporting volunteers of America. It is taking place from September 29 to October 2 at the Old American Golf Club in The Colony, Texas, a little town northeast of Dallas.

There will be 132 participants vying for the $1.7 million total prize pool, which has been increased from $1.3 million. Seven of the top ten players in the world are the part of the event, including Jin Young Ko, the number one player in the world, and Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko, Henderson, Atthaya Thitikul, Nasa Hataoka, and In Gee Chun (10).

Prize money breakdown of the tournament
Former winners of this tournament are Cheyenne Knight (2019) and Angela Stanford (2020), and coincidentally, both are from Texas. Ko, a player from South Korea, is one of several international professional athletes who now call Texas home. Now we have to see who lands in which position this year.
