Key Facts

Officers were spotted moving in and out of Telles’ home at around 7 a.m. PDT Wednesday and an area outside the residence was taped off, according to the newspaper.

German was found stabbed to death Saturday morning at his home, but police said the killing happened during an altercation with someone the day before.

Police released photos this week of a suspect wearing a wide straw hat, reflective long-sleeved orange shirt and gloves, which concealed essentially all identifying features, along with a description of a vehicle believed to be tied to the killing—a 2007 to 2014 red or maroon GMC Yukon Denali with chrome handles, a sunroof and a luggage rack.

Review-Journal reporters spotted a vehicle matching that description in Telles’ driveway.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told Forbes in a statement that it is “currently serving search warrants” related to the homicide investigation; Telles could not be reached for comment.

Key Background

Telles, a Democrat, has served as public administrator since 2019, a job that primarily involves securing property of residents after they die and administering estate transfers. He lost a reelection bid in June by failing to win the Democratic primary, falling to his top deputy. Reports of office turmoil under Telles served as the overarching issue of the primary, with German documenting bullying, favoritism and an “inappropriate relationship” between Telles and a staffer. German, 69, spent 40 years as a journalist in Las Vegas, joining the Review-Journal in 2010. Review-Journal executive editor Glenn Cook said German had not voiced any concerns about his safety.
