QotW: I prefer to buy the newest console when it’s had a price drop or a revision, and that’s especially going to be true when the PS5 will retail for five hundred and ninety nine dollars. (Probably in US funds, too.)

Of course, I should have realized that 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim English dub delay is due to Covid-19. The My Hero Academia English dub of the anime was delayed until very recently, so it makes sense that the game’s dub was delayed and patched in later, too.

Anyway, as for the Question of the Week, I usually wait about a year to buy a new console. I tell myself it’s whenever there are enough games I’m interested in are released for it, but that tends to take about a year anyway. The only exception is the Wii, which I bought at launch and even went to the midnight release for.

I buy consoles once I know Dragon Quest exclusives are coming. I even waited 2 years on the Switch to get DQXI S.

For both budgetary and backlog reasons, I won’t buy a new console until it has at least one exclusive game that I absolutely must play right now.

I’ve been burned anyway. Even though I waited several months to buy a Switch, I still got one of the earlier models with a predisposition toward overheating. In order to play it while docked, I have to turn on an internal Switch fan that my roommate installed AND point an external fan to blow on the Switch, or it will overheat and shut down after 20 minutes.

The Switch is the only console I’ve bought at launch, and will probably remain so – not many other platforms can boast a launch title like Breath of the Wild. That said, I got the PS2 within a year of launch and the PSP within the first two or three months – and I actually had the PSP shipped from Japan, so it was really not long after the EU launch.

Quite tempted by the next-gen consoles, but I don’t really have the time or money to justify the purchase. Especially time – starting a backlog on another platform doesn’t have much appeal!
